Housing

Maisons Martin-Matte network

The Martin-Matte Foundation finances adapted houses to meet the needs of its clientele. They are designed for victims of head injuries seeking independence. Some require round-the-clock  supervision. They also house people living with a physical impairment. The Foundation offers safe, welcoming housing, as well as adapted care.

Before the Maisons Martin-Matte network, there were no housing resources for people living with a head injury in Québec.

The houses and residency projects

The Maisons Martin-Matte network has 8 adapted living environments across the province: in Laval, Sherbrooke, Blainville, Québec City, Coaticook, Saint-Prosper, Trois-Rivières, and Trois-Pistoles. These resources relieve many families and give residents the chance to live in a setting adapted to their condition, so that they can thrive and live out their lives as adult.

In addition to financing the construction of Maisons Martin-Matte, the Foundation is a financial partner for life that provides management and maintenance. It is involved in maintaining buildings, so they remain in excellent condition, and activities, to foster a positive, dynamic living environment. It also maintains the quality of services to residents.

All Maisons Martin-Matte are managed day-to-day by regional organizations, partners of the Martin-Matte Foundation.  The Centres intégrés de santé et de services sociaux (CISSS) as well as the Centres intégrés universitaires de santé et de services sociaux (CIUSSS) in each region are also financial partners for care and services to residents.

Objectives of the housing model of Maisons Martin-Matte

  • Provide adapted, affordable housing, including common spaces for people living with a head injury or a physical disability.
    • Offer a welcoming, dynamic living environment where adapted services are available based on the needs of residents to compensate for the disabilities and respond to their desire for independence.
    • Encourage the creation of a social network among residents.
    • Foster social reintegration, help residents thrive and contribute to a sense of belonging to a social group to break down isolation.

    Services available

The services available in the Maisons Martin-Matte depend on the resource and needs identified in the individual’s intervention plan, but the approach generally involves several areas of daily life.

    • Support for developing residents’ independence through specialized educators available on site.
    • Assistance for daily living: basic personal care (e.g.: washing, dressing, eating).
    • Assistance for domestic living: for example, laundry, housework, organization, medication.
    • Health care professional services from the CISSS/CIUSSS based on the needs identified in the individual’s intervention plan.
    • Meals served in common areas.
    • Adding vitality to the living environment and adapted activities.
    • Night watch.

    Future projects

    Houses under construction

To meet the growing needs of adapted housing for people living with a head injury or a physical disability across the province, the Martin-Matte Foundation is continuing its financial support for building new adapted housing projects, while strengthening the network of existing houses.
